Steel Tower
Architectural & construction design in collaboration with Aliena Rumpf
The project Steel Tower proposes a design for a temporary viewing tower overlooking the city of Münster. The suggested location is a vast meadow alongside
a small creek where the city center is just a few minutes' bike ride away. The tower includes two viewing platforms and three stories with enclosed spaces for a public
library. There is also space to host the city model, presenting current city planning.

The task was to investigate sustainable supporting structures and facades, industrial preproduction, and on-site construction logistics.
We chose to look further into the life cycle of steel construction. Since industrial production already maxes out the recycling potential of steel, a much smaller percentage of demolished material ends up in reuse, even though second-hand standardized steel beams cost far less energy. It led us to research the typical construction of industrial storage buildings and reversible joints such as studs.
